Monday 3/20

OK, so I am a day late. Packing and unpacking, disconnecting and reconnecting takes time. Especially when you forget what gets connected to what. That being said, forgetting also happens with faces, names and places. The 1st SXSW was NOT AT the Town Lake Holiday Inn. It was at the CREST. The BBQ, great food as always, also served up a face full of egg, thanks to a conversation I had with a 20yr. staffer. I don’t “remember” his name, but I do know he has been using the same 35mm SLR for 20 years.

The softball game was cancelled because of rain once before and called another. Of course all of this information is in the directory (Thanks Pooch). Why read “The Directory” when you have a “total recall memory” like mine.

The 20th Anniversary BBQ was anti-climatic and surreal. It seemed bizarre being corralled in an empty produce warehouse after wandering the streets and alleys of Austin. 10 exhilarating days of music, films and face to face communication comes down to a final shared meal. I missed the softball games not as a player but as a fan. After all, that’s what started all of us in the wonderful world of music and entertainment.

Now if I can only slow down those ear hairs and remember where I left my credit card I will be all set for the
21st Anniversary of SXSW

As a policy S.A.M.B.E. provides an open forum for all musicians, fans, promoters etc. I may support the concept of MP3 downloads but feel it is just as important to support copyright protections afforded recording artists. Piracy may not seem an important issue to the unknown artist trying to gain recognition but it does hamper sales of recorded product. Have a safe week.
