Lil’ Bit & The Customatics
‘The End Of The 7 Year Itch’
From: LilBitandtheCustomatics
Howdy there friends, It’s been awhile - hope everyone has been in fine shape out there! Sadly, this message will be filled with some news I know a lot of you aren’t expecting. I’ve thought long and hard on how to share this with everyone, and the best way seems to be short n’sweet. Coming up in July, Lil’ Bit & The Customatics will be playing our last show. I’ve got some health issues that need to be handled, and I could really use a break. So after 7 years together, I decided this would be the best time to do so - and we’d be able to go out on a high note. I would like to return to music one day, but I will be taking at least 6 months to a year off. And I still plan on getting this album I’ve been working on out - though I’m not sure when. The boys are still out there making music and I hope you’ll all go out and support them in their different endeavors. You can catch Tomcat now with his own group, The Tomcat Miller Show, and Brian & Paul can be seen weekly with The Barnburners.

I’ve said this over & over throughout the years and I’ll keep on saying it: I’ve been truly blessed and honored to share the stage with these wonderfully talented guys, they are family to me and life won’t be same without The Customatics. I’ll be eternally grateful for the opportunities and experiences that have come my way involving them and former band members Brent Warren, Steve James, Dave Crisci and Richie Alcorta. I’d like to send a special shot out to the guys who filled in on occasion too - Ric Ramirez, Tony Gloria, Shannon Marino, Mike Minnick and Jeremy Jacob. It’s been a pleasure and quite a wild ride. We’ve got a few shows left and I hope you’ll all get a chance to come out and help us celebrate, we’d love to see you one last time.

Upcoming shows:
Saturday July 10th @ Riley's Tavern
8894 FM 1102 Hunter, Ph: 512-392-3132 (map)

Monday July 19th - Sam’s Burger Joint Swing Nite
Sam’s Burger Joint 330 E. Grayson, Ph: 210-223-2830 (map)
This is my annual swingin’ summer luau and our official goodbye party.
there might be a show or two added, but this is what’s on the books as of right now.

I want to thank all of you out there for the support you’ve given to me and the boys throughout the years. Thank you for buying our music, listening to it, sharing it, dancin’ to it. It means the world to me that I got to live one of my biggest dreams for almost the past decade. You’ve all made me feel like a true honky tonk star and I’ll never forget a moment.

Thanks to all the folks out there across the country who came out to see us on tour and took care of the band: Sweetpea, Sunshine, Dena & Kevin & Marley Abeyta, Beth & Mike Minnick, Sam Havens, Nick Bode, Julie & Mike, Trinnie & Herbie, The Skylark folks, Bender’s, All our Colrado friends, Rainbow Bar, All our Norcal wine valley friends, Caspar Inn, Rocket Room, Chopper & Francis, Blue Suede News, VLV, Shake The Shack, The Cowgirl Hall Of Fame, Heights Community Center (Primordial Swing Dance Group) and all the other clubs out there that booked us, stations that played us, people that wrote about us, friends that hung out with & cooked us dinner and gave us a spot to crash. You all made touring worthwhile.

Here in our homestate, I’d like also thank Angie & Joel and the staff at Riley’s Tavern, The Sam’s Burger Joint crew and Polly Cox & The Mix staff. Every spot here in Texas that gave us a stage to perform on. Jinelle & Lucky Boyd at MyTexasMusic, Third Coast Music & KSYM (Jim Beal, Dave Ludwig, Abigail, Joe & all the other DJs there), Bill Conner, Mattson and everyone at KNBT, Sam Ash, Kathy & Shawn Rutledge, Andres & Babette for all the pics & videos, Stacie & Scott Kimrey, Kymmi, Lauren, Ruby, Belle & Jose, Lil’ Jen & Alex, Brandon & his crew - the list goes on.

Thanks to our fellow bands out there too that we’ve gotten to play alongside - Two Tons Of Steel, Rick Broussard & Two Hoots & A Holler (thanks so much for France!), The Lost Bayou Ramblers, Sean Castillo & The Hubcaps, Ruby Dee & The Snakehandlers, Shotgun Party, 1/2 Mile Combo, Hopped Up, Wanda Jackson, Jesse Dayton, Mad Max & The Wild Ones - there’s so many to thank, but this is getting pretty long now. So if you’re reading this and don’t see a mention, please know that you are very much included in my heartfelt gratitude.

Thank you all soooo much, my life would have been so much less if it hadn’t been for every single one of you being in it.
Hope to see you sooner, rather than later.

"I have met Art and he is humbled..." Kate Clinton
July 2010 - Get Ready! – Be the first on your block to get political!
From: Gene Elder
National Political ARt Month - July 2010
"I have met Art and he is humbled that there will be a month honoring his political work. He gets no respect from people who are where they are because of him, so this is a long overdue and richly deserved retrospective. I hope he can make it, but he was recently seen in Iran doing chalk drawings in front of Ahmadinejad's house, then nothing. --Kate Clinton, Comedian/activist

What is Political ARt Month?
Like everyone else, I always enjoy seeing the new talented MFA artists showing off at the galleries every year. All of this is great fun, until the Titanic hits the iceberg; then all this creativity seems very frivolous and silly. And the artists that keep doing the same old stuff and only read Art in America for their information are not going to be the artists that the world needs. I want San Antonio artists and the artists from all 50 states to be the artists that the world needs. Gene Elder - Archives Director, HAPPY Foundation

The Cactus Cafe in Austin – Shutting Down?
UT-Campus 2247 Guadalupe Street, Ph: 512-475-6515 (map)
From: Dropshot
I was made aware of the Universtiy of Texas trying to save money by shutting down the venerated sound room, The Cactus Cafe. Now, I am not a big fan of money wasting, but I don’t believe in sacrificing beneficial institutions either. The Cactus Cafe is National Centerpiece for Singer/Songwriters. It serves as a model for other institutions to copy. The Cactus is unique in this quality and is the product of the sweat and inspiration cellected and compiled from songwriers over the last 37 years. This collection of this experience is housed in this location and provides a social fabric not just for University, but for the whole city of Austin and beyond. Dream Healing
From: John Stanford
This [ Dream Healing ] is SA filmmaker Dora Pena’s first feature film, shot entirely in the King William area of San Antonio, about a clairvoyant child with the ability to cure insomniacs.
On August 8, by a stroke of good luck, I was able to attend the Red Carpet Premiere of Dream Healing at the Santikos Paladium. I was blown away, on the edge of my seat for the whole film. The film was written and directed by Dora Pena, and produced by her and her husband, Manuel Jason Pena. I’ve seen many films by local filmmakers and applaud the effort and hard work they put into their films. But I can’t remember seeing a first film like this one, up to the highest Hollywood standards -- and surpassing them in many ways -- in story, acting, music, and cinematography. For me it was a magical evening, and I’m not going to miss the chance to see the movie again. Jesse Borrego is one of he lead actors. Because he refuses to play in movies that present Chicanos in degrading stereotypes, I don’t get to see him very often nowadays. And I thought the other actors all outstanding, including several local actors I’ve known for years. The movie is non-political and I usually don’t send out non-political emails. But I thought I would be unkind not to let my friends know about this film. Regards to all,-juancho (John Stanford) 10/01/09

Culture VI Records
From: marketing@culturevi.com
We are an independent hip-hop label looking for feedback on our label’s first full-length LP, ‘Elite’. I have personally overseen the recording of 26 mixtapes and over 700 songs during our six years together since founding Culture VI Records. We recently released our artist Juganot’s new single “En Why Ceequal” featuring Busta Rhymes, Fat Joe and Swizz Beatz, which is getting a lot of airplay on major stations across the country. Though we are based along the East Coast in the US (Miami, Atlanta, Boston, Baltimore, NJ and NY), we are hoping to gain exposure into the Texas music scene. Most of our artists are huge Scarface fans! All the Best,Wil – CEO & Founder, Culture VI Records, Inc. Web-site: http://www.CultureVI.com 02/07/08
