Liz Larin @ Pecan St. Ale House. Fri-3/14

If you missed the Liz Larin showcase at the Ale House (see below) you missed an opportunity of a lifetime. This woman possesses tons of talent in every way. From the opening down beat to the final chord this woman had command of the stage, her six sting and everyones attention. Larin possesses a stage presence that captivates and mesmerizes. She also looks great. Each song was delivered with a passion that made time disappear. The one hour set seemed to last only a few minutes. What was great about the performance was the way it relied on Larin's ability to deliver. And she did deliver. Why this fantastic talent was "previously on Atlantic Records" only illustrates the stupidity that major record labels have. Larin was selling her CD's as fast as they could be pulled from the supply sack. The CD does sound great but does not even come close to giving the same sense of exhiliration as the "LIVE SHOW". It amazes me when mediocre talent, that relies on someone to write the words for a song, some one to write and orchestrate the music and then out of the blue, wins 5 Grammys. Then there are artists that do it all. Write the music, the words and provides the passion that comes from within. Yes, it takes talent to interpret someone elses music but that should be a Grammy for interpretation. Recommendation: CHECK EM OUT. Then buy the CD.

Liz Larin to Showcase at SXSW
Friday, March 14th, 11:00pm
Pecan Street Ale House 310 East Sixth Street (enter from alley)

Edgy vocals and groove-oriented rock by 4x winner of Detroit Music Awards. “The Story of O-Miz” (Bona Dea Music) is LIZ LARIN’s fourth CD and second on her own imprint. Described by Detroit Metro Times as a ‘modern urban goddess.” Larin combines “youthful sex-charged energy with a strikingly mature sensibility. Has recorded with producers Scott Spock (Avril Lavigne) and Ben Grosse (Ben Folds, Filter).

Don’t miss one of the best showcases at SXSW this year. Previously on Atlantic Records as a member of Rebel Heels (One by One by One) and as a solo artist (Test Your Faith), LIZ LARIN is back in Detroit writing and performing the best music of her career. Larin's Detroit following flock to see her perform and she’s got European fans in England, Germany, Belgium and Switzerland.

Rodney Pyeatt @ Oceans 11, Fri-3/14

While doing the obligatory pre-event crawl on the various music side streets this strange sound emanated from the other side of this tall fence. Actually it was not a strange sound at all but definitely seemed out of place. I am not a country music fan by any stretch but do enjoy a good song solidly delivered. For a few minutes I allowed myself to indulge in a traditional country song. It was great. Pyeatt played one of the songs on his Texas Beer Joint Tour CD which prompted me to go over the edge. I now have a country CD which holds the high honor of being an exclusive. Thanks for the song Rodney. Recommendation: CHECK EM OUT. Then buy the CD.

The Darkness @ The Blender, Fri-3/14

OK guys, here we go again. Is it going to take another British Invasion to get you off your collective asses. Take the stretch. Leave the house. Stop listening to your favorite CD and create your own. The Darkness is upon us and if you are not careful you may never see the light. Recommendation: CHECK EM OUT.
